FAQ > Personal Training and Group Classes > What about ab work like crunches and sit ups? Should we do more?
Most of the things people currently do to train their abs are dead wrong. Much of the abdominal development you see in others is not a result of core strength training, but of low bodyfat levels. Were these people asked to pull a heavy deadlift or swing a heavy kettlebell (both require strong functional core development) most likely their ‘abs’ would fail the task. While I do engage in some additional abdominal training for clients now and then, it is important to understand that during swings and get ups your abs are working like dogs, far harder than during any number of sit ups. For the most part seeing your abs is going to be a matter of proper diet. As Dave Whitley Senior RKC so aptly put it “You can’t out-snatch a donut.”
