FAQ > Personal Training and Group Classes > What is the difference between personal training and group classes?
Personal training is exactly that, ‘Training’. The classes are a workout. During one on one personal training sessions we are doing more than just getting a work out. We are assessing your comparative range of motion as well as your functional movement patterns to ensure that we are not simply building fitness on top of dysfunction. A simple example of this is having locked up shoulders. Most people have very tight shoulders from slumping over while driving, sitting at a desk, sitting on a couch, sleeping in a semi-fetal position, etc. This seriously inhibits your range of motion and it will catch up with you someday. If you begin training and this is not corrected you can still build strength and endurance, but this issue will eventually result in pain and most likely injury. If you were to train this way you would effectively be building ‘fitness on top of dysfunction’. The first step in personal training is finding these problems and correcting them, therefore solidifying your foundation before we try to build upon it. During the classes I do my best to correct form issues and offer advice on fixing some foundational problems you may have, but I can only do so much when training a number of people together.
